LD Stroke Compound-wound Differential Transformer (LVDT)
The LD Series Stroke Compound-wound Differential Transformer (LVDT) in a 
highly reliable 4-wire design are the optimum choice for measuring the valve opening 
on turbines.

 Measuring Principle
As shown in Fig. 1, the compound-wound LVDT transformer is composed of a primary and a 
secondary coil, the secondary coil being symmetrical and wound to obtain inversed phase. At 
an armature position in the range of 0% to less than 50%, the relationship becomes |Va|>|Vb| as 
shown in Fig. 3 (a) and, as shown in Fig. 2, |Va+Vb|=1.4 Vrms shown the armature is 
positioned at 0% and the |Va+Vb| value decreases as the position approaches 50%.
When the armature is positioned at 50%, the relationship becomes |Va|=|Vb| and |Va+Vb|=0, 
as shown in Fig. 3 (b)
Furthermore, when the armature position is in the range of more than 50% to 100%, the 
relationship becomes |Va|<|Vb| as shown in Fig. 3 (c) and, as shown in Fig. 2, the value of 
|Va + Vb| increases as the armature position approaches 100%, and at 100% becomes 
|Va+Vb|=l.4 Vrms.
However, as shown in Fig. 3, in the 0-50% and 50-100% ranges, the phase of Va + Vb reverses 
by 180 degrees at the 50% (NULL) position.
Output Vout becomes 0.7-3.5Vrms/0-l00% as shown in Fig. 2, because a voltage VC 
(2.lVrms) of the same phase as Vb is added to Va+Vb from the input side.
